Removing Honeywell Thermostat Cover
You should not pull hard enough to remove the base from the wall.
Removing honeywell thermostat cover. You are in right place. The cover will not come completely off of the thermostat no matter the cover type. You never told us what model thermostat you have. Most thermostats can best be removed by gently being pulled from the wall.
Swing open the cover. Wires should be coming from the wall and fastened to the terminal base although. Removing a honeywell decorator cover plates require removing both the outer utility cover and disassembling the thermostat to remove the decorator cover plate. Either cover is easy to open but each takes a slightly different technique to remove.
It will either swing up or down or side to side. Use a phillips screwdriver to detach the anchor screws on the left and right sides of the thermostat body. Then depending on the thermostat style remove the utility cover using one of the two methods described above. Most thermostats can be removed from their base by gently pulling them away from the wall.
Before getting started be sure to turn off power to the thermostat to avoid the possibility of electric shock. If the cover doesn t easily detach you may need to remove a screw or press a button or latch to remove it. But be careful not to pull too hard as you might detach the base from the wall. If the cover does not easily detach from the base there may be a screw to remove or a button or latch to release.
This is an instance when you might need a screwdriver for removal. Find that location and use your fingers to grasp the edge of the cover and gently swing it open. Then unscrew the screws holding against the wall. If your honeywell thermostat has a swinging cover there will be an edge that sticks up around the side of the thermostat.
Once the old cover is taken off the thermostat base will remain fixed to your wall. With most honeywell thermostats you need to take the front cover off.
